Fed: Canberra man obsessed with child porn, court told

A court's heard a former Canberra music teacher .. caught in a global police operation
.. didn't realise anyone was being hurt by his obsession with child pornography.

The man downloaded nearly 15 thousand images including graphic videos.

58 year old RICHARD LLEWELYN from Chisholm has pleaded guilty to one charge of possessing
child pornography and one charge of using a carriage service to access the material.

LLEWELYN was arrested and forced to resign from his teaching job in March after police
discovered the images on two home computers and 61 DVDs.

His arrest was part of a world-wide investigation into child pornography called Operation
Centurion.

LLEWELYN's obsession became so extreme he suffered deep vein thrombosis as a result
of spending so much time on the computer in 2005.

Commonwealth prosecutor JON WHITE said LLEWELYN had shown deep remorse and was horrified
when he realised the children in the images had been victims.

The court's also been told LLEWELYN's wife and three grown children are supporting him.

The hearing has been adjourned until September 26.
