Qld: Ship to be assessed after fire on board

BRISBANE, Dec 10 AAP - Fire and ambulance crews remain on a container ship anchored
off Brisbane after a fire broke out on board on Thursday.

An assessment team will board the vessel on Friday to check the damage, a spokesman
for Emergency Management Queensland said.

A 39-year-old crewman was winched from the burning container ship, the Liberian-flagged
Maersk Duffield, on Thursday afternoon.

He was flown to the Royal Brisbane Hospital suffering smoke inhalation.

The fire broke out in the ship's engine room about 1.30pm (AEST) and was extinguished
by firefighters.

The ship anchored near Mud Island in Moreton Bay overnight and is expected to be towed
into Brisbane on Friday.

The 281-metre vessel was travelling from Singapore to Brisbane.
